Our kids, Jojo, my extended family by affinity and I were very happy and excited on the arrival of my sister-in-law, ate Myrna and “bilas”, kuya Jerry who came home from Hawaii on January, 2012. They came to the Philippines for a vacation to spend precious time with us. All of us grown-ups who are employed or working made it a point to take a leave of absence or be absent from work for a few days just to be with this rare occasion. The children also made an excuse to be absent from their class for this grand 5-day family vacation with their beloved “mama” Inday and “Papa” Jerry. On our first night together as a family, ate Inday and kuya Jerry opened their “balikbayan” box filled with “pasalubongs”. Everyone had our fair share of sweet goodies and different kinds of stuff.

I always want to have a family picture taken whenever my parents come to visit us. I feel that such moments should be treasured because it seldom happens in a year. This is due to the distance that kept us apart. However, my husband and I made it a point to take the whole family to our ancestral home in Bukidnon at least twice a year. We want our kids to spend quality time with their grandparents, uncles, aunts and most especially their cousins who were living there. I should say that we have been fortunate enough because both of us came from the same hometown. In just one long distance travel, we could visit our parents and in-laws at the same time.
